"Gjurgjovden"

"Gjurgjovden" is a common holiday, there are a lot of beliefs and customs involved in this holiday that make people believe that this day will bring prosperity, health to the domestic animal and good fortune to the people. It is celebrated on 6^th of May and it is connected with the arrival of the spring. On this day people gather to the main church and they start to walk towards the newly build church with flags and crosses and they are led by the priest who sings a prayer. Back in the old days people would gather in a small chapel that was on the place where the today’s graveyards are and they used to eat and drink and young girls used to decorate the chapel with green branches from the newly bloomed trees. They used to sing songs regarding the holiday.

Today, on the very entrance of Vevcani there is a church St. George Victorious.
